THE China Law Association at UCLA

Welcome to the website of The China Law Association at UCLA.

Who We Are:

We are an organization of law students and attorneys, working with businesspeople, China scholars, and policymakers. We promote education, dialogue, and innovative thinking in Chinese law and policy as well as areas of U.S. law and policy related to China.

What's Online?

Our directories are a great starting point to find California attorneys with China expertise, as well as a range of scholars and institutions.  For those looking to learn and network face-to-face, many of L.A.'s China-related events are posted on a common calendar.  The daily news page is a great way to keep up with the headlines in Chinese law, politics, and commerce.  There are also opportunities in academia, NGOs, and the private sector posted periodically on our scholarships and employment board.

Why China Law at UCLA?

China and Los Angeles are connected in fascinating ways. Greater Los Angeles is home to more people of Chinese descent than anywhere else in the United States. International trade is the largest component of L.A.'s economy, and China trade is its fastest-growing sector. The Port of L.A.-Long Beach sends more U.S. exports to China and receives more imports from China than any other port in America. And while Hollywood movies have long shaped the perception of American life among China's people, Hollywood studios now also seek to shape China's policies on enforcement of intellectual property rights. Because L.A. has a unique stake in the U.S.-China relationship, the city also has unique resources from which to contribute to the U.S.-China dialogue.  We at The China Law Association find that when leaders in the study and practice of Chinese law and business come to speak at UCLA, great conversations begin, understanding is enhanced, and opportunities abound.

At UCLA, scholars from China are frequent visitors to campus through the Center for Chinese Studies. UCLA is among the Top Ten U.S. Universities for sending U.S. students abroad and for welcoming foreign students to the United States, lending globally-informed perspectives to the discourse on campus.  It is also home to one of the most diverse—and by far the youngest—of top-ranked law schools in the United States. The consequences for our organization are a membership supportive of innovation, a network rich with China connections, and a perspective grounded in L.A.'s long-term role as an economic and cultural lynchpin in the U.S.-China relationship.

We encourage you to take advantage of the resources on this website and to check our event calendar for opportunities to learn, network, and lend your voice to L.A.'s ongoing dialogue on law and China.
